Acquisition helps Sun move up in the Lighthouse Systems Index

Lighthouse Systems Index - July 2009Oracle’s acquisition of Sun has helped the firm move up to the 3rd spot this month. The acquisition is interesting as it has led Oracle into the realm of hardware and it will be interesting to see how Oracle handles Sun’s hardware business.

NetApp is one of the top gainers this month as it moves up 6 positions. It has conducted an “Analyst Day” to communicate its ideas to the analyst community which has helped it improve its score this month. It is currently ranked 17th spot in the Lighthouse Systems Index. Hitachi Data Systems which has announced new innovative capabilities in its storage systems has also moved up 6 positions and is ranked 28th. AMD which has showcased its latest six core high energy efficiency processor has also moved up 4 positions to the 14th spot this month.

The biggest decline is in  the ranking of Infineon Technologies. The firm has failed to get a single mention from analyst heavyweight Gartner in June and has dropped 6 positions this month. Freescale which shipped its one billionth sensor has also dropped down 5 positions this month and is at the 33rd spot.
