Ericsson & Ciena climb the ladder in Lighthouse Telecoms Index

The biggest gainer in this month’s telecoms index is Ciena as analyst focus on its big Ethernet push has helped the firm jump 18 positions to land at the 37th spot. However, the most interesting and high profile gainer is Ericsson as it has moved up 5 spots to make it to the 4th position. The fact that Ericsson has just signed a $1 billion deal with China Mobile and is considered one of the top 10 vendor for providing worldwide infrastructure support has surely helped the firm to get to this rank.

Huawei has jumped up 6 spots and the announcement of the firm to form a joint venture with Symantec Corporation will surely help it gain more analyst focus. The other major Chinese telecoms firms, ZTE, has also shown a 6 position improvement and has stepped in the elite top 25 list of telecom firms in the Lighthouse Telecoms Index.

Avaya, the firm that showed some great improvement in profile last month, has dropped down 4 spots this month. The firm has completed talks with Silver Lake and TPG to go private and it will surely be interesting to see how analysts eye this purchase. Telefonica, which has announced an increase in its profit, has also fallen 6 spots and out of the top 25, while PCCW which recently announced a partnership with Bharti Airtel to extend MPLS services has also failed to induce any substantial interest in the firm’s venture/products and has fallen 5 positions.
