Does location matter for Cool Vendors?

Looking through the responses for our survey of Cool Vendors, It’s interesting to see how location matters. We invited every firm that won the Cool Vendor award over a five year period, and it’s interesting to see which countries have the most Cool Vendors. Not every firm really considers itself has having one national location, but the survey located location information for around 150 of the firms. On the basis of that technocratic indicator, here’s how the major countries lined up in terms of Cool Vendors per nation:

  • USA – 98
  • UK – 15
  • Australia, India – 8
  • Israel, Netherlands – 7
  • Canada, Germany, Italy – 4
  • Sweden. Switzerland – 3
  • Japan, Norway, Spain – 2
  • Brazil, China, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, Portugal – 1.

It looks like Australian and Dutch firms are punching above their weight. Surely firms in China, Japan and India are under-represented. What do you think? Certainly this survey data is less accurate than a manual count through the thousand-plus Cool Vendor’s websites but it seems like a fair sample to us.
