BEA & Adobe climb higher in May’s Lighthouse Software Index

This month the Lighthouse Software Index has some spectacular increase in the profile of some firms such as Progress Software (+27), IFS (+49) and Aspect Software (+65). This increase in profile of these firms however, may be a passing phenomenon rather than a permanent increase in the importance attached to these firms by analysts.

More interestingly, BEA Systems has managed to finally jump 2 positions to get at the 8th spot. The focus of analysts on Web2.0 applications and middleware technologies helping it get that position. Adobe, which has just launched its Adobe Media Player, has also jumped 2 spots to land at 10th spot. Sybase also had a good month.

McAfee (+9) has shown one of biggest jumps in the Lighthouse Software Index. The firm has been listed as one of the alternate providers in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Content Monitoring and Filtering and Data Loss Prevention, 2Q07 and has also won the SC Magazine awards for the “Best Anti-Malware Solution” and “Best SME Security Solution”. EMC’s RSA Security is another brand that has risen sharply this month. It has been named as a leader in the Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management.

Compuware (-11) has been one of the most prominent losers in this month’s Software Index. The fact that it has been rated by Ovum as the leader for software testing tools is not making much of an impact on the overall analyst focus on this firm. Sage, which has just acquired Snowdrop Systems, has also suffered a drop of 9 positions this month.
