Verizon is the most high profile gainer in the Lighthouse Telecoms Index this month. Analysts’ emphasis on its future expansion plans has helped the firm to gain four positions and get back in the top five. 3Com which has announced lower profits than last year has also jumped up six positions. The firm is in talks about a buyout by a consortium in a deal valued at $2.2 billion. It will be interesting to see the impact of the buyout on the firm in the coming months.
The big gainers this month are Enterasys and Foundry Networks. Enterasys, which has announced a partnership with Endeavor Security, has gained eight positions and moved to the 37th spot. Foundry Networks (the recipient of Internet Telephony magazine’s 10th Annual Product Of The Year Award for its FastIron GS Series switches) has also moved up eight positions.
Motorola, which had just last month gained four positions, has dropped down three spots this month. The firm has undergone a change in leadership and may well be expected to gain momentum again next month on the basis of new products and contracts. Alltel has shown the biggest decline this month as it has slid down eight positions to the 44th spot.
