mySQL up as analysts focus on Sun’s acquisition by Oracle

Lighthouse Software Index - May 2009The news of Sun’s acquisition by Oracle has put the spotlight on mySQL which is the most high profile gainer this month. Touted as the world’s most widely used open source database system it will be interesting to see how Oracle aligns mySQL alongside its own database system. This acquisition has helped improve the score for mySQL and it is now ranked 13th – an improvement of 10 positions over the last month. BMC which has moved to the 10th rank is another prominent gainer this month. The firm has been positioned as a leader in the Job Scheduling Magic Quadrant and its OEM license deal for Cisco UCS has helped it to move up 2 positions. IFS which has inked a strategic partnership agreement with Saab is one of the biggest gainers this month and has moved up 12 positions this month.

Informatica which reported record first quarter revenues is the most high profile loser this month. The firm has dropped down 5 positions and is now ranked 21st this month. Less surprisingly Altiris, now part of Symantec, is down 9 positions this month and is the biggest loser in the top 50. There are no new entrants or dropouts from the top 25 this month.
