This month the biggest gainers in the Lighthouse Software Index are webMethods and Epicor. Epicor’s announcement to acquire NSB Retail Systems and exceptional revenue for 2007 fourth quarter has helped it gain 15 positions. The surprise gainer is webMethods as it has gained 15 positions and is now ranked 36 in the Software Index. The firm has been steadily losing its position since it was acquired by Software AG last year. Its latest jump in ratings appears to be a temporary surge due to analyst interest in looking at last year’s mergers and acquisitions. Citrix which has been named a leader by Gartner in the Magic Quadrant for SSL VPN, North America, 3Q07 report has also gained 3 positions and is the most notable gainer in the top 25.
Sterling Commerce has been the biggest loser this month as it suffers a drop of 11 positions. The firm has lost the focus of IT analysts and being mentioned as a “Top 100 Provider” by Food Logistics Magazine has not helped it avert the loss of position. Genesys which has just announced an expansion in its strategic alliance with IBM in China and Open Text have also dropped 10 positions each. Interestingly this month has no entrants to the top 25 software firms in the index.
