Alcatel-Lucent moves up in the Lighthouse Telecoms Index

Lighthouse Telecoms Index - July 2009Alcatel-Lucent is the most prominent gainer this month as it moves up 2 positions to the 8th spot. It has received the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award but the improvement in the firm’s ranking can be mainly attributed to its new strategic alliance with HP. Brocade, which has announced double digit growth in its share of the modular Fibre Channel (FC) switching space, has also moved up 5 positions and is ranked 20th.

PTC(Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa) has moved up 10 positions and is the top gainer this month. The only new entrant to the top 25 is Telefonica which is up 1 position. Telefonica has been selected as the exclusive partner for the upcoming Palm Pre phone in Europe and it will be interesting to see if this gets the firm more business and analyst focus in the coming months.

Qwest is the top loser this month and is down 9 positions. The firm has won 3 Cisco US and Canada service provider awards but a lack of any mention by Gartner in June has resulted in the firm dropping to the 39th spot. The only firm to drop out of the top 25 this month is France Telecom which has slipped to the 27th position this month.
