Analyst of the Month: Alan Pelz-Sharpe

Each month, Influencer Relations highlights one of the leading analysts in our industry. We ask one of our favorite analysts about their current work, past experiences and how to get the best out of them.

ALAN PELZ-SHARPE

BACKGROUND:

I have been an industry analyst for 20 years and founded Deep Analysis 4 years ago.

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH AR?

A recruiter sent me for an interview at Ovum in the late 90’s – I was looking to join a software firm and did not even know what an industry analyst was, so complete accident really.

BIGGEST AR HORROR STORY:

Threats to sue me – despite analysis being fair and accurate. Happened more than once. Extremely unpleasant.

WHAT MAKES AN EXCELLENT INDUSTRY ANALYST?

Honesty, a thick skin and endless curiosity

HOW IS THE INDUSTRY CHANGING/ HOW HAVE YOU ADAPTED DUE TO COVID-19?

More zoom less face to face – but not much has changed.

WHICH INDUSTRY ANALYSTS SURPRISE YOU?

Back in the day Andy Warzecha (Meta) and Regina Casonato (Gartner) were the analysts I benchmarked my work by. They had very high standards indeed.
