Hitachi and NetApp rise as Qualcomm fumbles in the Lighthouse Systems Index

Hitachi Data Systems is the firm that has shown the greatest increase in profile this month in the Lighthouse Systems Index. The firm has jumped 7 positions as analysts consider some of the new products that the firm is launching such as the Universal Storage Platform V and Hitachi Content Archive Platform 2.0. Network Appliance is another high flyer this month based on some excellent growth in both revenue and capacity share of Disk Storage Systems and some excellent financial results. NCR has also shown a jump of 5 positions as it enters the top 25 for the month.

Qualcomm has shown the biggest decline this month as it drops 6 positions to end up at 32nd spot. The troubled chip maker has had a tough time due to patent fights and a ban by US Trade Commission to ban import of new phones with Qualcomm chips. It may be expected that as the news sinks in there will be a flurry comments and analysis to understand the impact of this decision on the overall industry making this a firm for industry watchers to track. Meanwhile, Canon which celebrated its 50th year of presence in Europe has failed to catch the analyst eye and has shown a decline of 4 positions this month.
